The AE-7 is the newest card that is comparable, but I'll be waiting for one based on the Super XFI UltraDSP to be released. This sound card includes THX TruStudio Pro audio technology, bringing together two of the most respected names in sound quality to provide an unparalleled audio experience on the PC. I can definitely recommend this as an upgrade over the Titanium HD. The Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD provides the highest quality audio playback of any other sound card Creative has ever introduced. I got a used ZxR off eBay that was discounted due to missing the bridge for the daughter board I had no intentions of using. Unfortunately, most of the newer cards are actually a downgrade in terms of what you get on the card. Maybe they gave up something in the process, but it's more user friendly. New cards have done away with this and have a much nicer interface. You have to swap between the different modes for games and other media, and while there may be some benefits to this, I just wish it were more seamless. The issue that I had was the software just feels clunky and dated. It wasn't a marketing buzzword back then, but it can drive headphones up to 330 Ohms. Some believed the Titanium HD to not have a headphone amp, but that's simply not true. It's not a huge problem, but it is handled more graciously by the newer cards having a software toggle for headphones. I personally haven't had any problems, but there are a few small nagging issues that are fixed in more modern cards.įor one, the Titanium HD requires that you manually unplug headphones if you wish to swap the output to external speakers. Many consider the X-fi Titanium HD to be the best sound card of all time, while others will tell you the card is riddled with problems. You're going to get a wide variety of opinions with a question like this.
